DAY 2 - CINCINNATI, OPENING CEREMONY and INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Independence Day began with a seamless start as we left the Microtel for Cincinnati and directly to our hotel. The morning also greeted us with some good news: the Duke Energy Convention Center (where we will share meals and meet friends in the massive choir cafeteria) is right across the street from the Millennium Hotel!

After parking our comfort buses, the Chorale and Staff headed over the DECC to check in. The DECC’s International Choir Lounge is equipped with games like cornhole and even mini golf! Not to mention more than a few choirs.  By the end of the morning, we rubbed shoulders with MR. CLEAN (Proctor & Gamble is the lead sponsor)!!

Following lunch and a great rehearsal at the hotel, we got settled in our rooms and changed into our tour t-shirts and black pants for the evening festivities. After a hectic (and hot) stop at Cincinnati Reds Stadium to organize the 300+ participating choirs, we joined the parade and proudly carried the U.S. and GA flags!

The Opening Ceremony in the U.S. Bank Arena was packed with choirs and audience. We heard many speakers, sang the World Choir Games song, heard the Cincinnati Pops and May Festival Chorus, enjoyed the presentation of country flags and listened to the ringing of the Peace Bell.

Independence Day came to a close with FANTASTIC, festive fireworks over the Ohio River.  Along with the WCG, the Cincinnati sky sung magnificent harmonies as fireworks from other areas and neighborhoods illuminated with sky along the river. Very early day tomorrow, with many performances!
